This is my Deaf History Essay I wrote for last semester. I started out with one question which was about the role of women in Deaf History but after I read one of the books I had chosen (I was #87) I changed my mind and asked my teacher if I could make up my own. This was my topic: "Misdiagnosis has been a common problem for deaf people in the past. Often diagnosed as mentally retarded, many deaf people, both children and adults alike, were subjected to emotional, verbal and sometimes physical abuse due to this problem. What happened to some of these people? How were their lives affected due to this lack of understanding and what trials did they face and possibly overcome in light of this prejudice."
